Frequently Asked Questions
What method do you use?
After reading every single baby sleep book I could find, it seemed like none of them really worked. With the Mommywise Method, all of that changed. I watched a grumpy, overtired baby unfold into a happy, well rested, cuddly little girl. And that's when I knew that I wanted to offer the Mommywise Method to tired families in the Bay Area.
The books are okay, but the authors aren't there with you in the middle of the night. They can't help you figure out if something is needed, they can't hold your hand throughout the process. I'm right there with you, guiding you to better sleep.
Each plan is tailored to meet your baby's needs, and takes a great deal into consideration: age, developmental abilities, temperament, even the location of your baby's bedroom. Every step of your customized sleep plan comes with the support of your sleep consultant, and together we find sleep solutions to fit your needs.

Is this a cry-it-out method?
No parent wants to hear their baby cry. I know, I've been there too.
By using our customized sleep plan, we can find a way to minimize the tears and foster your baby's ability to learn to sleep independently. There may be some tears in the beginning, but we want to avoid excessive crying. Our goal is sustainable sleep success.

When should we sleep train our baby?
There's no perfect age, no perfect weight, no exact science that can say when to sleep train your baby. Some pediatricians recommend as early as 8 weeks, but most commonly I see families between 12 and 20 weeks.
is my baby ready to be sleep trained?
There's no way I can know, without speaking with you. A good indicator would be checking with your pediatrician. You, along with guidance from your doctor, are the best people to decide if your little one is ready.
Will the mommywise method work for us?
I understand the fear of failure! That's why we will complete a complimentary assessment, to determine if the Mommywise Method is right for your family. After the phone call, if I am 100% confident that your baby would benefit from the Mommywise Method, then we can create a plan to work together. Because I'm 100% confident, that means I am expecting 100% success.
Many families have tried to use different methods, quickly flipping through the pages, trying to find the answers in a book. That's not what we will do. Being able to observe your baby, his or her strengths and skills, we are able to change strategies mid-stride to help your baby each and every step of the way.

Can we get our children in the same bedroom?
Absolutely!
What about twins?
Yes! Twins need sleep, too!
What about the 4 month regression?
The 4 month "regression" is a huge developmental leap. Babies have been slowly waking up, engaging more with their world. As they mature, they start to lose the easiness of newborn napping. This is developmentally normal. Your baby isn't giving you a hard time, she's just growing up.
I thought doulas don't do sleep training?
You know, I used to think that. And then I met families who were struggling with sleep deprivation, struggling with postpartum mood disorders, families who were angry and frustrated and dealing with frequent arguments.
So much of our lives are affected by sleep deprivation. That's why they use it as a form of torture! One of the best things I can do to support families is to offer a solution to sleep trouble. Everyone deserves rest. Helping families to get more sleep is a support I am proud to offer.

How old are the babies you usually work with?
Usually, I work with babies between 5-18 months. I also work with toddlers up until 3.5 years.
